100% chardonnay from 35 year old vines and 9 different sites; The fruit undergoes complete malolactic fermentation & no sulfites are added. The wine is aged in new & old barrels for 12 to 24 months & held in bottle for 1 to 5 years until it is disgorged, corked & released. Pale straw
in the glass with lovely mineral, dried fruit and citrus zest aromatics that reflect the purest expression of the Montgueux terroir. The palate is vibrantly alive with crisp citrus and melon flavors that are backed by deft acidity & dazzling minerality. The finish resonates with succulent
citrus notes. A wonderful match to oysters, seafood and shellfish. And of course, by itself.
Domaine Louis Chenu Père & Filles “Hauts-Jarrons” Savigny-les-Beaune 1er cru
Louis Chenu Père & Filles is a family winery in Savigny-les-Beaune, Burgundy. They have been working the vine and producing wine for five generations now. The first parcels of vineyard were bought by Louis Chenu in 1914 and are today worked by his great grandson Louis Chenu with the help of his wife and daughters. They are constantly aware of the importance of respecting the vineyard, the quality of the wine and providing a warm welcome for customers who visit our cellars. Juliette and Caroline have been working as a team for a number of years to strengthen and build on the quality of the wines. The Hauts-Jarrons (Jarrons meaning tree branches) are located in the middle of the slope under the Mont Battois hill heading towards Beaune. Their deep and sandy soil is similar to that of the Beaune-Bressandes. Likewise, the wines are more like those from Beaune than Savigny. Very full-bodied and tannic, they have good aromas but remain closed when young. They require a few years before reaching fullness and are favorable to a long aging process. Certified Organic.
AMPELEIA KEPOS IGT COSTA TOSCANA
“Ampeleia is one of the stars of the Tuscan coast…..At their best, the Ampeleia wines are among the most pure, transparent expressions of the coast readers will find. Elisabetta Foradori and her team are doing important work here. Ampeleia is a young estate. There is every reason to believe the best is yet to come.” —Antonio Galloni. Different Mediterranean grape varieties— 80% Alicante Nero (aka Grenache), 18% Carignano, 2% Alicante Bouschet— sourced in the vineyards closest to the sea, in Ampeleia di Sotto, where the Mediterranean scrub dominates the landscape and permeates the air with its fragrances. Sourced from parcels at 200-350 meters above sea level. The fruit was harvested from the 10th of September to the 5th of October at yields of 50 hl/ha, destemmed, and fermented together; aged 11 months in cement tanks, followed by 7 months of aging in bottle prior to release. ‘Kepos’ is Greek and is synonymous with ‘garden,’ any place where trees and herbs grow. Even though the term is considered faux pas by the winemaker this is a “natural” wine.
Tenuta Monteti Caburnio
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Alicante Bouschet, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc. The story of Tenuta Monteti began in 1998 when, after years of searching, Gemma and Paolo Baratta finally found this corner of Tuscany in the southern Maremma area where they could take up again a project from their youth. In this small valley, 15 km from the sea and 145m above sea level, the fields are protected by the Monteti hill from which the estate takes its name. Being able to start from scratch, without an old local tradition or the frame of a DOC classification, meant there was freedom to listen to the soil and the climate, and plant the varieties that would respond and express themselves to their best. Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Alicante Bouschet were chosen and in these archaic Mediterranean hills soon they found a very personal expression. Tenuta Monteti has increasingly focused its attention on respecting the environment in all aspects of the production process. In 2017 Caburnio and Monteti obtained the “Sustainable Wine” certificate as part of the V.I.V.A. “Sustainable Vitiviniculture” programme of the Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea. Caburnio shows a brilliant and intense ruby red, opens up with scents of red fruit, morello cherry, warm spices, hints of rose and eucalyptus. Silky and smooth, very rich and balanced, lingers in the aftertaste with fruity and mineral notes.
