MORE from the IMPORTER:
Greetings- We have long supported a handful of Italian co-ops, which enable small landowners to keep farming by providing a reliable purchaser for their fruit. Today we welcome our first such project in France: Poivre d’Âne. Poivre d’Âne started 13 years ago with a group of friends from the Terrasses du Larzac in the Languedoc. Their goal was to create a quality negociant wine brand focused on “living wine” (organic, spontaneous ferment, low additives). The wines we received today are from a single calcareous clay vineyard surrounded by woods, just outside the Terrasses du Larzac appellation. They are “field blends” in the sense that the grapes are harvested, pressed, and fermented together. These are elegant, contemporary wines that speak to our fondness for humble, collaborative projects. Here’s what arrived from Poivre d’Âne:

Continuing west in the Languedoc, our first Direct Import order from Yannick Pelletier in Saint-Chinian has arrived. Yannick grew up in the Mâcon, where he fell in love with the Faugères of Leon Barral; now Yannick and Didier Barral are neighbors in a wild and remote corner of the region. Yannick’s entry level wines are delicious, interesting, clean natural wines. His top wine called “Coccigrues” comes from a plot of 100+-year-old Carignan that Yannick converted to organic farming. It’s a stunning tour de force. Here’s what arrived from Yannick Pelletier:
