Juggernaut Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon

Mountainous terrain tests both the grower and the vine. But the results can be extraordinary. Hillside vineyards have less access to water, with the rockier soil also holding fewer nutrients. These conditions stress the vines, resulting in the production of a fraction of the fruit of most vineyards. The harsh environment causes the vines to struggle, yielding fewer clusters and smaller berry size. Since most of the flavor resides in the grape skins, the result is berries that are loaded with rich, ripe, intensely concentrated flavors and complexity. French oak beautifully transforms intense mountain fruit into a wine with uncommon richness, yet smooth and luxurious texture. Juggernaut Hillside Cabernet is a wine that is fierce, brave, and delicious.

Trefethen Double T Red Blend

55% Cabernet Sauvignon 23% Petit Verdot 13% Malbec 8% Merlot 1% Cabernet Franc
Much of the winter rain came late, with almost 12 inches in March alone. With a very warm spring, the vines were running about three weeks early heading into the summer months. July and August were cooler than average, with foggy mornings, mild sunny afternoons and no severe heat spells. Vineyard temperatures rose again in September and harvest dates were early by about two weeks. The heat in the spring and again in the fall provided welcome bookends to the mild summer. The grapes benefited from increased hang time and showed fantastic character development.Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot provide the backbone for this lovely blend. Malbec brings color, red fruit characters and a hint of floral. Merlot adds a lively spice and herbal character with Cabernet Franc offering finesse and a peppery perfume. Aromas of lush, summer blackberries, brambly cassis, complemented by white pepper, clove, and baking spices are framed by sweet vanilla oak. Juicy, ripe, black cherry and blackberry flavors excite the palate, and the wine finishes long, wrapped in cedar, cinnamon, and clove.
