Asheville’s Best Wine Tasting W/Drew Summers
Day Vin De Days Blanc 2017
42% Pinot Blanc, 17% Pinot gris, 16% Riesling, 14% Müller Thurgau and 11% Muscat
This is a blend of several organic and biodynamic farmed vineyards from around the Willamette Valley. Each vineyard was picked when the fruit was optimal for the overall blend, and with the overall blend in mind. Thus, some fruit was picked for its aromatics, some for its acid, and some for its fruit characteristics. Each lot was pressed and settled, and then added to a stainless steel tank where the wine went through native fermentation. It was sulfured post primary fermentation to keep malic acid in the wine, then cold stabilized and filtered prior to bottling on January 17th, 2017.
Strehn Blaufrankisch Rose 2018
The vision was to create a rosé of 100% Blaufränkisch grapes, that shows great freshness, lively acidity, the typical fruit of Blaufränkisch and that refelcts the region where it grows. We wanted to create our own Blaufränkisch Rosé-style. So, here we go – enjoy!
Salwey Pinot Noir 2016
The Salwey estate from Oberrotweil in the Kaiserstuhl area of Baden is truly a family operation, but also quite different. Beginning its third generation lead by Konrad Salwey, the estate is committed to the classic Kaiserstuhl varietals; Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Konrad is known for experimentation, to take chances with new techniques and procedures in the interest of advancing the style of vinification. His particularly strong affection and passion is reserved for Pinot Gris, truly the flagship of the estate. The wines are always fermented completely dry and always characterized and defined by the Loess and vulcanic soil of the area. During the fermentation process nature is allowed time and space without ever leaving the process to chance. “We require the absolute highest standards in tending to our vineyards. 100% of the selection is performed by hand and fermentation is done exclusively with natural yeast mostly in big “ovals”. We avoid fining of the wines and almost always bottle without filtration.” Faithful to the Maximum: As little as possible, as much as necessary!
Three Wine Co Petite Sirah 2015
The Petite Sirah is sourced from a mature vineyard in Contra Costa County with an extremely sandy-loam soil (similar to beach sand). Due to this soil type and moderate growing conditions, the vineyard produces low yields with intense fruit flavors. This wine showcases deep blackberry fruit with a big tannin framework. For those of us who love Petite Sirah, this one will not disappoint. Our friends at Wine Access love this wine and when they are not drinking it, they use it to fill up their Mont Blanc fountain pens. Our Petite Sirah vineyard has vine rows running east to west with a high of about 20’ elevation on the east side to about sea level on the west end. Due to the soil type and moderate growing conditions, the vineyard produces low yielding small berry clusters with intense color, structure and fruit flavors. Explosive aromas of blueberry preserves and sweet herbs and packed with blueberry flavors and firm tannins, accentuate this ultra-concentrated Petite Sirah. Drink now for its primary fruit plushness or age 5 to 7 years to help soften the tannins.
