Asheville’s Best Wine Tasting W/Drew Summers

February 20, 2019 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Zanotto Col Fondo Bianco

A slightly sparkling, natural, unfiltered white wine. The second fermentation takes place once a year around Easter. Pale yellow with greenish hues. The aroma recalls toasted bread crust with delicate notes of apple and citrus. On the palate, the wine is dry, complex and pleasant with its typical notes of yeast and fruit. Lightly salty and very mineral on the finish. Can be served clear by leaving the lees deposited or slightly opaque, with a slight shake of the bottle for a more rustic, decisive flavor.

Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Rosso

Nerello Mascalese (roughly 95%); Nerello Cappuccio (roughly 5%) The grapes are macerated until the end of fermentation. The wine then continues its life in wood until bottled roughly one year after harvest. Even young it is a distinguished wine. Fresh, fragrant, beautifully slender and with a fine grip, it has a natural polish, a stage presence, as it were. And, in aging, as its weave gathers into rich complexity. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation and aging in large French oak barrels (10-30 hl). Bottling after 16 months of wood aging and 1 month in steel.

Correggia Anthos Rosso

Organic Brachetto  The Anthos vineyard sits at a 300 meter elevation, on an east/south-east facing slope. The soils of this particular vineyard are predominantly sand with a small percentage of silt and clay. Fermentation in large steel vats lasts two to four days, with frequent pumping over. After fermentation is complete, the wine is racked to a large stainless steel tanks for eight months before bottling. 4000 bottles per year are produced.

Cirelli Montepulciano

Organic & Unfiltered Montepulciano is planted across Italy, but achieves greatest expression in Central Italy, and indeed the greatest wines of all come from the eastern coast – the region of Abruzzo. Here it’s color belies its strength – pale wine of power and dryness that are built for the dining table. Cirelli’s organic, unfiltered example is an absolute belter. A nose of dried red fruits, with hints of balsam and leather, also exhibits some trademark oregano herbaceousness . All gentle so far, but savory.
